Visual Functions Services

The Visual Functions Clinic, based in Carlton, provides special investigation of visual problems and unexplained vision loss.

Services include:
  • full colour vision diagnosis
  • colour aptitude assessment
  • dark adaptometry
  • potential visual acuity
  • glare susceptibility
  • ERG and VEP
  • laser scanning ophthalmoscopy & computerised disc topography
  • clinical photography
  • corneal topography
  • full visual field analysis & frequency doubling perimetry

Eligibility

Patients may be referred to the Visual Functions Clinic by an optometrist from the ACO Clinic, private optometric practitioners, medical practitioners and industry.

Costs
Consultations provided by optometrists may be covered directly by Medicare.  However, Medicare benefits are not payable for examinations related to occupational purposes. These include occupational colour vision assessments and ocular screenings for employees using laser equipment.  Patients or their employers are therefore charged the full scheduled fee, payable at the time of the consultation.
