Outreach eye care

The ACO outreach program is at the heart of who we are and what we stand for – accessible high quality eye care for all. We have a team of dedicated and compassionate optometrists who visit a range of sites to provide eye care and promote good eye health for people experiencing disadvantage.

The ACO outreach program works with a range of welfare and support agencies to provide services for:

  • People living in Supported Residential Services (SRS)
  • People living in Residential Aged Care Services (RACS)
  • People experiencing homelessness
  • People living in Older Persons High Rise facilities
  • People living in supported disability community units
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities

Care is provided at your site and our optometrists will attend with portable equipment. If suitable, a purpose-equipped van can be arranged to accompany our outreach team to allow for additional testing such as retinal photography and visual fields. People requiring further care may be referred to one of our permanent clinics, a GP or an ophthalmology service as needed.

All examinations are bulk billed to Medicare and glasses are heavily subsidised through the Victorian Eyecare Service (VES) for Health Care Card and Pensioner Concession Card holders.

If your organisation would like to find out more about this service please contact the outreach team at outreach@aco.org.au or phone 03 9349 7472.
