Since its foundation, the NVRI has been at the forefront of vision research and has honed a set of skills unique within the Australian research landscape. As an expert on the international stage, the NVRI continues to further understanding of vision through basic, clinical and translational vision research programs, while Alumni across the world reach new heights within the research sector.

The NVRI’s spirit of collaboration has been a cornerstone of its success and it has been fortunate to cross paths and partner with scientists, research organisations, industry, and universities of the highest calibre. This page showcases just some of our stories and achievements over the last 50 years.

The NVRI celebrates 50 years

The NVRI welcomed past and present researchers, collaborators and supporters to its base at the Australian College of Optometry in Carlton on Tuesday 22nd November, to celebrate its 50th anniversary!

Many of the researchers who played significant roles in developing the NVRI were welcomed home on Tuesday evening, meeting with current researchers and exchanging stories of their time with the research institute, including the people and projects that made a difference to them along the way.

Meet our PhD Candidates

The NVRI hosts PhD candidates who are enrolled at a mix of Melbourne based Universities and linked to our valued collaborators. This results in a range of disciplines being studied within the larger scope of visual science research, and establishes the concept of multidisciplinary research and collaboration from the outset of their research careers.

So far, we have highlighted our Alumni, but what is it like to undertake a PhD at the NVRI? We caught up with some of our PhD candidates to get a glimpse into their research projects and what makes NVRI the institute of choice for them.
