Hospital collaborations

The ACO is proud to collaborate with a number of public health services in Victoria on the provision of eye care.

We are currently involved in providing care to patients with suspected or early glaucoma in a regular clinic run at the ACO in partnership with the Eye and Ear Hospital. In this clinic optometrists and ophthalmologists work as a team to provide safe, timely and efficient eye care. The goal of this service is to address the existing and growing demand for glaucoma services in the Victorian public health system.

Additionally, ACO optometrists attend the Eye and Ear Hospital regularly to provide contact lens care to patients with corneal conditions such as keratoconus. These patients may then receive further specialised contact lens care at ACO.

Optometrists from ACO also provide on-site diabetes eye assessments at select Endocrinology clinics with Austin Health and Monash Health; an important service for people who may not otherwise access care.

In response to the growing demand for public cataract services, Alfred Health has partnered with ACO for the provision of postoperative care of patients who have undergone cataract surgery. This pathway has assisted Alfred Health in reducing its overall cataract surgery wait time.
